Swim Spas Technical Data
For anyone interested in placing their swim spa either fully or partially in ground, here is a diagram that I created to show various ideas and technical data for the vault size needed. Feel free to contact us with any further questions.
For all 12' and 14' swim spas, minimum concrete pad thickness should be 4". For all 16' swim spas, minimum pad thickness should be 6". All swim spas should have a minimum of 30" of clearance in the front section for access. When figuring how far into the ground the hole should be dug, make sure and add whichever pad thickness you are using to your total figure. For example, on an XL-12 EST that is 57" tall, if you want 20" of the spa sticking out of the ground, the hole should be 41" deep. (57" plus 4" concrete slab minus 20" height out of ground) Electrical on all swim spas except the Tahitian 1 and XL-12 EST are 230 volt 60 amps. The other 2 models are 230 volt / 50 amps. All connections require a 4 wire direct connection to your electrical panel. Three #6 wires for the 2 hot leads and the neutral, and a #8 for the ground. An external G.F.C.I. is required in all applications, and must be located a minimum of 5' from the unit. Please contact a local electrician for any additional code requirements that may be present.
Electrical usage varies from city to city and has several variables. Most important is the region where you live. How cold does it get? Colder winters mean more electrical usage. What is your electrical kw hour rate? How often will you use the spa and for how long per session? Based upon feedback I get from my customers from all around the country, the typical bill ranges from $60 - $90 per month, with an average temperature of 85 degrees, and using the swim spa 4 times per week for 30 minutes per use.
